After Care

DOS and DON’TS

After removing the original bandage applied by the Artist DO NOT RE-BANDAGE.

DO NOT apply Vaseline or petroleum products; alcohol, peroxide, aloe vera, or any other products not mentioned in the CLEANING YOUR TATTOO section.

DO NOT listen to your friends for after care instructions. ALWAYS consult your Tattoo Artist for advise.

LOTIONS RECOMMENDED:

Aveeno, Lubriderm.

MAKING YOUR TATTOO LAST

DO NOT swim in a pool or ocean, soak in a tub or otherwise immerse your body in water for two weeks after getting your tattoo. (Showers are fine.)

As your tattoo heals, it will itch just as a scab does. The healing process causes the itchy feeling.

DO NOT SCRATCH OR PICK AT YOUR TATTOO You will end up picking off bits of color.

DO NOT expose your tattoo to direct sunlight for two weeks.

After your tattoo has fully healed it is advisable to put a high SPF sun block on it when you’re going to be exposed to the sun. The sun WILL fade your tattoo over time if you do not protect it.

HEALING PROCESS OF YOUR TATTOOS

The life of your tattoo is dependent on the care it receives in the first few days.

Keep the original bandage on for at least 1 hour, or as directed by your tattoo artist.

Remove the bandage and gently wash tattoo thoroughly with antibacterial or mild soap and water. Be sure to remove all surface blood and pat area dry.

For the first three days, clean hands thoroughly and apply a small amount of Aveeno, Lubriderm twice a day. These ointments can be purchased at drugstore or grocery store.

If you have difficulty locating either moisturizer, call MATRIX.

Take the smallest amount possible on your finger tips, rub it into the tattoo like a lotion and wipe off the excess ointment. This is completely different than the amount that your tattoo artist applied immediately after the tattoo was finished.

Your skin will absorb what it requires to properly heal.

If your tattoo appears greasy, you have used too much.

After this initial three day period of using the ointment, do not apply anything to your tattoo.

After 5 days your tattoo will begin to develop a layer of dry skin similar to a bad sunburn. Small scabs may also develop.

The skin that peels off the area of the tattoo will be the same color as your tattoo – DO NOT WORRY, you are not losing your tattoo. This is completely normal.

When you reach this stage, apply an unscented lotion to your tattoo to keep it from drying out. Again DO NOT over moisten your tattoo. This will do more harm than good. Simply apply enough lotion to keep the area from drying out.

Branding

Human branding is the process in which a mark, usually a symbol or ornamental pattern, is burned into the skin of a living person, with the intention that the resulting scar makes it permanent. It is done in our present time with consent as a form of body modification, and historically, as a punishment or imposition of masterly rights over an enslaved, or condemned person.

The history of body branding is the darkest of all the forms of body modification. Brands were used as a mark of ownership over slaves, not all the long ago. Hollywood films have helped to enforce this dark image by showing painful, non consensual brands being performed on people, against their own will.

Today, body branding is gaining popularity, but the risks are great for those who do not know what they are doing. People attempting to do brandings on themselves after seeing someone else do it are risking very painful and permanent damage to their bodies. Using materials such as bent coat hangers and paperclips to do branding is incredibly dangerous, due to the fact that these materials contain plated metals, which can chip off and imbed into the skin, causing metal poisoning, and potentially a painful surgery to have them removed. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME.

As practiced at the Matrix, body branding is the art of creating decorative scars through the use of extreme heat in two forms; strike and cautery.
