Laser Tattoo Removal

We have have all been there; young and adventurous; out to prove our individuality! We have walked into a tattoo shop, nervously choosing the first piece of “flash art” we see, or providing such an unclear description of what we are looking for in a tattoo, hoping the Artist can create that perfect piece. After the adrenaline rush subsides, we are inevitably disappointed with the outcome!

Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal is the safest and quickest treatment available to remove an unwanted tattoo. Laser removal is also least likely to damage your skin. Other treatment options include surgical excision (the surgical process of cutting away the tattoo and sewing the skin back together), chemical peel and traditional dermabrasion (a surgical process that removes scars or other imperfections of the skin by scraping the skin's surface with wire brushes or very fine sandpaper). Such options are rarely used today as they have a high likelihood of scarring the skin.

What are the side effects of Laser Tattoo removal?

You may experience redness in the area, mild swelling and/or tenderness, crusting, a sunburn sensation, and/or itching immediately following your laser treatment. Our Certified Technician will answer any questions you may have during your consultation and can provide you with additional information about what you can expect from laser tattoo removal. If you have any concerns or discomfort following your treatment, please contact us for a follow-up visit.

What are treatments like?

  • First, the tattooed area is cleansed and photographed.
  • The laser emitting/pulsating light hand wand is gently glided over the tattoo.
  • The size and color(s) of the tattoo determine the length of treatment time. (Eg, A tattoo the size of a quarter would take approximately 3-5 minutes to treat.)
  • Some clients will apply a topical anesthetic cream that may minimize the stinging effect of the treatment. Most clients undertake the removal treatment without topical anesthetic and describe the sensation as feeling similar to numerous rubber band snaps.
  • An anti-bacterial cream is applied following the treatment to keep the area moist and then it is covered with a protective dressing.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments required to effectively remove the tattoo depends on its size, color, location and age. During your consultation, our Technician will be better able to suggest the time required for treatment and answer your questions. Contact us if you experience discomfort not described during your consultation.

What results can I expect?

Results will vary from client to client. After each treatment the tattoo will become lighter. With various types of ink used in tattooing, the results and the number of treatments will vary. Multiple treatments are usually required and are scheduled 4 to 8 weeks apart. Black, dark blue, and red pigments respond best to the removal treatment.

Today, laser treatment is the most common method of tattoo removal. A laser emitting wand targets and breaks down the ink with pulses of highly concentrated light which are then cleared away by your own immune system. The removal is not accomplished with just one treatment. The more treatments you have, the more the laser will penetrate to destroy the ink. Experts in laser removal suggest that current technology has advanced to the point where scarring is minimal or often non-existent.
